Absences

If a child is unable to attend school for any reason, notification is required on the first day of absence either:

A girl dressed up warm on a cold snowy day
  • by telephoning the school
  • by email
  • by a visit to the school office
  • by sending in a written message with a sibling

School will telephone or text parents if children fail to attend without notification. The absence will then be classed as an authorised absence.
Holidays will not be authorised unless there are extraordinary circumstances in relation to the request for the holiday. It is not school policy to give authorisation for holiday absence during public examinations. In the interest of children’s education it is school policy to discourage holidays taken within term time as we know that losing time off school adversely affects the children’s education. If an absence is due to a family holiday, the parents should complete a holiday form, available from the office, at least two weeks BEFORE going away. Authorisation for holidays during term time is at the Head Teacher’s discretion (10 days maximum).
