Learning Support
We recognise that all children are individuals with differing abilities. Class teachers respond immediately to any child they think may have a specific learning difficulty. If a child is identified as having such a need, they are supported in the first instance by the child’s class teacher in discussion with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and the child’s parents. If further steps are required, outside agencies may become involved, with parental permission. A copy of the school’s Special Needs Policy, which complies with the new code of practice, is available on request.
We aim to fully support any child with Special Educational Needs through:
- Implementing effective individual programmes and provision mapping
- Communicating openly and regularly with parents
- Ensuring maximum inclusion in National Curriculum learning and in the social and emotional life of the school
- The efficient and effective deployment of support Staff
- Implementing its policy for early identification and referral
- Following the CAF process
“The school works well with outside agencies to support those
pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities.” - OFSTED
More Able Learners
At Little Aston Primary School teachers have high expectations and we are keen to raise achievement levels for all our children. We have many able pupils and believe that they require as much special consideration and help as other children. Our more able learners will be identified within standardised testing and through regular assessment. All subjects are required to ensure that the curriculum is extended in order to challenge the most able learners and their progress is carefully monitored. Some children may be identified as gifted and talented (Top 5%-10% of learners).
Assessment
Assessment for learning is a vital part of effective teaching and learning. Teachers plan work based on daily observation and marking of children’s work. Also in consultation with each child as their progress is assessed towards planned objectives. We encourage the children to self evaluate and set targets for future improvement.
Assessing Pupil Progress is implemented in English and Maths. Children are more formally assessed on a termly basis. The results of these assessments are recorded in order to monitor each child’s rate of progress. Children at the end of KS1 are assessed using a mixture of KS1 standardised assessment tasks and teacher assessments. In year six the children will complete the KS2 SAT tests in their final term. Once developed parents will be able to access assessment information about their children on the learning platform.
